Managing Stress During Troubling Times

Each one of us experiences stress at different times for different reasons, but especially during these uncertain times. During this presentation, you’ll learn how to identify your stressors and use the S.T.O.P. Method to work through times of tension.
About the presenter:
Kirk D. Fasshauer, LCSW, FT, CTM, is the Director of Crisis Response Services and Professional Development for Peace River Center. He has been with Peace River Center for 20 years and was responsible for creating the Crisis Response Team. Kirk has over 30 years of various mental health and psychiatric emergency health care experience. Kirk holds a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Rutgers University in New Jersey and a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. He is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Florida. He is also a trained crisis/hostage negotiator and a certified Field Traumatologist. Kirk is a former Regional Director for the Florida Suicide Prevention Coalition which raises awareness of the issue of suicide in local communities through education. He is a member of the National Center of Crisis Management and the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress. Kirk is a Master Trainer/Certified Instructor for Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training and is involved with the statewide and Polk County chapter CIT Coalition. He has been a trainer for Polk County Institute of Public Safety instructing law enforcement officers in Crisis Management/Intervention, Law Enforcement Stress Management, and Basic Hostage Negotiations. He has provided workshops and trainings regional to several law enforcement member agencies belonging to the Bay Area Negotiations Group and Florida Association of Hostage Negotiators. He is a consulting member of the Crisis Negotiation Teams with Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Lakeland Police Department and Winter Haven Police Department. He serves as a Clinical Director for Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) for the Polk County Sheriff’s Office’s CISM and the Polk County CISM teams. He is an adjunct professor at Florida Southern College where he instructs in Sociology. He served as a subject matter expert member of the Florida Crisis Consortium for approximately 5 years which worked with the State of Florida in developing a disaster behavioral health plan as part of the State’s Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan, and he has been deployed to various locations, nationally and internationally, to provide disaster behavioral health response. He recently served as a behavioral health subject matter expert on the Polk County’s Safe Schools Taskforce.
