Finding Their Voice: OnTrack Empowers Young Adults to Shine

Karaoke is far from what many would expect from a mental health recovery program. However, witnessing participants eager to perform quickly demonstrates what Peace River Center’s OnTrack program is accomplishing.  At Peace River Center, OnTrack is more than just a mental illness recovery program—it’s a transformative journey for adolescents and young adults, building self-esteem and a community.

“You are all here today to celebrate yourselves. You are all VIP, very important people! In the year I’ve been here, I’ve seen you all go through ups and downs, but most of all, I’ve seen you grow, flourish, and fight like hell for yourselves. So, a toast to you all and success in recovery! Cheers!” – Amanda Mazariego, Peer Specialist

A Harmonious Celebration of Progress

Recently, the OnTrack team hosted a Karaoke Party, providing participants with an opportunity to showcase the skills they’ve honed throughout their time in the program. This event wasn’t merely about music; it was a celebration of personal growth.

Participants, some of whom had previously struggled with social engagement or confidence, took to the stage with enthusiasm. Their performances reflected not only their musical talents but also the coping strategies, self-expression, and interpersonal skills they’ve developed through OnTrack. One participant shared a moving and vulnerable song she wrote the week before, including lyrics that expressed the hurt and trauma she has experienced.

The OnTrack Approach

Central to OnTrack’s philosophy is shared decision-making, where participants collaborate with a dedicated team of experts to set and achieve personalized goals. This innovative treatment program is for individuals between the ages of 16 and 30 who recently had unusual thoughts and behaviors or who have started hearing or seeing things that others don’t. Services encompass mental health treatment, educational and employment support, substance use counseling, and family education, all tailored to individual needs.

A Community in Harmony

Events like the karaoke party underscore the importance of community and connection in the healing process. By providing a safe and supportive environment, OnTrack enables young individuals to rediscover joy, build relationships, and envision a hopeful future.
