Celebrating 75 Years of Serving Our Community

Peace River Center staff who have been supervised by Nan Langston at her garden dedication

2023 Recap

This year Peace River Center celebrated 75 years of compassionate service to our community. During the last fiscal year we have expanded our services to help more individuals–check out our fiscal year 2023 impact below. We also celebrated employee milestones–including two staff members celebrating 40 years of service at Peace River Center–and held a ribbon cutting at our new Children’s Resiliency Campus at Williamsburg Square. Most importantly Peace River Center’s 400 plus dedicated staff have been there when some of our community’s most vulnerable needed us most. We encourage you to read Alex’s story and help us make more stories like hers possible by giving your best gift today.

Alex’s Story

Peace River Center saved my life. I am able do things I never thought possible. Now I live for this cause…mental health awareness!

-Alex, Peace River Center client

Alex was in a very dark place mentally and emotionally. Her anxiety was so severe that the 19-year-old slept next to her dad and stepmom for a few weeks after she moved in with them. The emotional abuse she previously endured had wreaked havoc in her life. Alex went days without sleeping or eating; she began to self-harm.

“It broke my dad’s heart when I finally found the courage to share about the intensity of my struggles,” said Alex. Her father was anxious because Alex was home during the day while he worked. One particularly challenging day Alex texted her stepmom because she did not feel safe being at home alone. Having previous experience with a loved one who has a mental illness, Alex’s stepmom knew immediately where to take her. “I trust Peace River Center; I’m taking you there.”

Alex is just one of 13,900 individuals who rely on Peace River Center’s 24-hour Crisis Services in any given year. The need for crisis services and mental health recovery programs is growing. Your support is essential, it changes lives.
